Where Do You Derive Your Self-Worth?
Where do you derive your self-worth? What are your pillars of strength that you take pride in? One place for me is my health. Part of my identity is wrapped up in being healthy, strong, and capable in my body. So when I get a measly little sinus cold or wake up with a stuffy nose…it MESSES WITH ME. Why does it mess with me? If I’m being honest, it’s because I don’t value myself the same way when I’m sick.
What is it for you? What is it that makes you feel worthy? What is that thing that if it were taken away you wouldn’t feel as good about yourself? Is it your car, your house, your money, your body, your youth, your looks, health, your intelligence or your humor? Most of us are attached to one or more of those things and it’s likely that if they were taken away, you would feel less worthy.
So what’s the take away? Where’s the gold here? The gold is knowing yourself a little better. It’s being aware of what those attachments are for you. It’s realizing deeply that whether your healthy or sick, rich or poor, young or old, YOU ARE WORTHY! You are worth of being happy and you are worth of being loved.
So next time you are injured or sick or forgetful or whatever your trigger might be, remember that there is room for growth here. Remember that things might be unfolding exactly how they are supposed to in order for you to evolve and grow. And despite what that insidious little ego mind might tell you at times, YOU ARE WORTHY for simply being YOU!
